Meet the Trainer
Megan Young is a positive reinforcement-based horse trainer that prioritizes the mental and emotional state of both the horse and human learner. She utilizes clicker training and follows LIMA/Humane Hierarchy. Megan strives to give the horse as much choice and control as possible in order to facilitate genuine partnerships between clients and their equines. In addition to training mindfully, she also takes into account all aspects of a horse's lifestyle that may be affecting their behavior. This allows her to adopt a "whole horse approach", meaning she finds holistic solutions to training and management challenges. Megan recognizes the value in continued education, and is constantly seeking to expand her knowledge through books, courses, webinars, and research articles.
Like many equine professionals in the positive reinforcement community, Megan grew up taking traditional riding lessons. However, her interactions with the lesson horses never felt completely right. The barn atmosphere encouraged her to rely heavily on pressure as a training tool, and to prioritize the horse's compliance. It wasn't until she began working with a positive reinforcement-based dog trainer that she realized she could train equines without the use of force. After this revelation, Megan slowly began introducing clicker training to her own horse. Once she saw her relationship with her horse blossom and noticed how effective science-based training could be, Megan transitioned to working exclusively with positive reinforcement. She developed an affinity for sharing her knowledge with others, and MC Cooperative Equine Training was born. By harnessing her passion and expertise, Megan strives to promote healthy and fulfilling relationships between people and their horses across the globe.
